An advertising major at Beirut College for Women, Bana earned a University Degree in 1974, while simultaneously working with a number of local and foreign advertisement companies. Bana began her professional career in Kuwait as Supervisor of the Graphic Design Section of Al-Assreyah Press where she worked from 1973 until 1976. She continued as Head of the Advertisement Section of Yusef A Al Ghanem Co. for two years from â76 until â78. She also freelanced designs for logos, annual reports, and books commissioned by many Kuwaiti and Arab institutions and companies from â78 until â87. She created an in-house Advertising Agency within the National Bank of Kuwait where she headed the project from â89 until â92, when she retired to finish raising her three children while working as an Art consultant for the bank in tandem. While living in the United States with her family on several occasions, she immersed herself in studying many different artistic mediums and techniques to enhance and develop her innate artistic skill. She studied Silk-screen Printing and Ceramics in Berkeley (â78-â79), Computer Graphics in San Francisco (â87-â89) and returned to Berkeley to study Fine Arts (â91-â95). Currently, she is living with her family in Vienna, Austria, where she has resumed painting, using her bedroom as a studio. Every Thursday she has an Open House for those interested to come and view her work. Her more recent work explodes onto the canvas conveying a sense of urgency and passion as she experiments with new media, mixing charcoal, water-based acrylic, oil, and handmade paper. Her artistic approach has always been varied and spontaneous, yet confidently mature, rendering energy and movement in her work. She stresses that what satisfies her most is when she is able to âcapture the lightâ in her work, which may be best described as a fusion of her native Middle-Eastern heritage, as well as Western artistic techniques. With each added medium she explores, her work gains depth and intensity, as evident from her most recent pieces. Bana is the mother of two daughters and a son.
